How is the Foundations Kit Montessori-aligned?
Like Montessori, we respect each child as an individual. We use a child's interests, learning style, and development to inform how we personalize their literacy kit. Our personalized approach helps kids feel seen, capable, and confident!
What books are included in the kits?
Similar to a Montessori approach, at Literacy Playground we let children and their interests take the lead. We use a child’s interests to inform some of the books that we include in their kit. Whether your child is interested in Minecraft, baking, dinosaurs or graphic design we can find books to engage their interests. When kids are interested, they’re motivated!
New Review by the Strictly Secular and Inclusive Homeschooling Group
Literacy Playground is unlike any other reading and writing program we have recommended or reviewed before. It is a fully personalized program to help your learner learn to read and write or to fill in the gaps, all while boosting their confidence. Not only is it customized to your learner, but they provide one-on-one support and feedback for the full year, for both you and your learner.
How do you personalize kits for children with learning difficulties like dyslexia, dysgraphia and ADHD?
When I find out one of my students has a special need or learning difficulty the first thing that comes to mind is repetition. I might need to teach the same literacy lesson multiple times for my neurodivergent student to understand the concept. They may need more guided and independent practice than a neurotypical student.
Why are the literacy kits screen-free?
Sensory play, sensory diet, multi-sensory, sensory toys, sensory experiences… I notice sensory curriculum and programs everywhere.
What does sensory learning really mean? Sensory learning mimics life. It is engaging and it sticks. Kids and adults learn when we're moving, creating and exploring.
Should I teach my toddler to read?
Before a child learns to read they need to be read to, they need to speak, they need to develop their vocabulary and they need to be able to recognize letter names and sounds. Before a child learns to write they need to develop gross and fine motor skills.
